Thank-You Note from Priscilla Stuckey, September 18, 2000

My heartiest thanks and congratulations to the 50 or so people who spent part of Saturday, September 16, cleaning up our beautiful creek and canyon. We did a huge job, and I've been enjoying the piles of trash lining Butters Drive since. (The trash was picked up Monday!)

Thanks to everyone who helped, here's what will no longer be lodged in the creek:

About 100 tires
Too many cans and bottles to count
Motorcycle frame (some art scavenger spirited this one off)
Nearly complete car frame, cut up in pieces, complete with seats
Enough appliances to outfit a house: dishwasher, stove, bed frame
with mattress, television, and a stone-age computer keyboard
Jugs and paint cans
Chicken wire and barbed wire
Fish tank
And the size prize: a backhoe tire, pulled out courtesy of a backhoe
(with driver) that showed up late in the day

In addition, piles of fire-hazard Scotch broom got cut down, and ivy was clipped and sawed off all the trees.

I'm in awe of what people can do when we work together! I had a lot of fun, and it looked like everyone else did too. Pat yourselves on the back, everyone, we did a terrific service for the creek and for everybody who enjoys it. I heard one longtime neighbor say this was the best turnout he'd seen for a cleanup in the neighborhood. Thanks to everyone's hard work, next year's cleanup will be a breeze.

What a great neighborhood! My thanks to all!
