Butters Canyon Cleanup Days
The plants and animals who live in Butters Canyon are fortunate to be surrounded by humans who would like to keep their home green and critter-friendly. Since the year 2000, neighbors have organized an annual creek cleanup to remove the trash that collects each year as a result of illegal dumping.
Cleanup days are held on Bay Area-wide "Creek to Bay Day" in September of each year. The City of Oakland, through its Watershed Improvement Program, loans tools and gloves and provides trash bags. The County of Alameda sends trucks to pick up the refuse.
