
One of the earliest urban land trusts, and the first in Oakland, was the Santa Rita Land Trust, begun over 25 years ago. The piece of land it sought to preserve is known as Jungle Hill.
Sitting near the banks of Peralta Creek on 34th Avenue lies the Peralta Hacienda Park, site of the earliest Spanish dwelling in Oakland.
Close in location, as well as in mission, the Friends of Sausal Creek works to preserve and improve the Sausal Creek watershed. Its vision includes an intact riparian corridor from the hills to the bay.
